Dr. Mahtab Moaveni, Psy.D., is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist who received her doctoral training from the Wright Institute in Berkeley, California. She is trained in multiple evidence-based therapies including Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Trauma Affect Regulation: Guide for Education and Therapy (TARGET), with a focus and expertise on social justice, race, and culture.
Dr. Moaveni specializes in the treatment of trauma and other stress-related disorders. She regularly presents and trains on topics of trauma and trauma-informed care and teaches a diversity seminar for therapists in training. She welcomes clients who are dealing with challenges related to trauma, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, interpersonal difficulties, adjustment-related issues, feeling stuck/unfulfilled, difficult family dynamics, and work-related stress. She provides a warm and gentle environment where clients are treated with compassion and respect.
She recognizes that seeking therapy is a crucial first step and works with her clients to help them reach their goals. She has a great deal of interest in considering the larger sociocultural contexts of clients and understanding how these factors influence their day-to-day functioning. She is committed and dedicated to understanding and empowering individuals while providing comprehensive and racially/culturally sensitive services to clients that encourage emotional growth and resilience so that they may enhance their overall health and live more personally meaningful lives. She is also fluent in multiple languages and can provide services in French and Farsi.
