Finding a couples therapist in NYC is a straightforward process with the Thriving Center of Psychology. Visit our website and you have two routes to book an appointment. Firstly, you can choose your preferred therapist directly from our providers page and select “book an appointment”. Alternatively, click on the “Request Appointment” button on our homepage, then complete a short questionnaire that asks about your therapy needs, and your preference in a therapist’s age, gender, and therapeutic style. After this, you’ll select a time slot to speak with our client coordinator. This professional will guide you to the therapist best suited to your needs, explaining their qualifications and therapeutic approach, ensuring you feel confident about your choice. Our goal is to pair you with the right couples therapist, someone who can effectively facilitate communication and growth in your relationship.

How much is therapy in NYC?

The cost of therapy in NYC varies widely based on factors such as the therapist’s level of experience, specialization, the length of the session, and any special psychological treatments needed. Generally, the cost can range anywhere from $100 to over $500 per session. At Thriving Center of Psychology, we value providing high-quality care while being mindful of the financial considerations for our clients. Our session fees fall within the range of $150 to $400, depending on the specific provider and the type of service chosen. While we are an out-of-network provider, our dedicated team will assist you in understanding your benefits and guide you through the process of insurance reimbursement, if applicable. Whether you’re seeking individual, couples, or group therapy, we are committed to ensuring you receive the best possible care tailored to your needs.

Why do most therapists in NYC not take health insurance?

In New York City, prioritizing therapeutic service quality often means therapists opt out of accepting insurance. This decision stems from insurance companies’ restrictive practices concerning coverage and reimbursement rates for mental health services. Therapists in-network tend to be overworked and underpaid, which may not be feasible for providers living in cities such as NYC.

At Thriving Center, our decision to be out-of-network has allowed us to take really good care of our therapists, so they can, in turn, take really good care of you. Being out-of-network means our therapists can spend more time giving you the tailored care you need without being overworked.

How much does insurance cover for therapy sessions out-of-network?

The amount that insurance covers for out-of-network therapy sessions can vary depending on your insurance plan and the specifics of your coverage. In general, insurance plans will cover a percentage of the cost of out-of-network therapy sessions, usually ranging from 50% to 80% of the fee for services.

Does insurance cover online therapy?

Yes, many insurance plans do cover online therapy, also known as teletherapy or telehealth. At Thriving Center of Psychology, we do not currently accept insurance, but we can provide you with a detailed invoice that you can submit to your insurance company for out-of-network reimbursement. Many insurance plans now cover online therapy services, so if you have out-of-network benefits, you may be able to receive coverage for your online therapy sessions.

How do I schedule my first therapy appointment?

Whether you’re looking for a therapist in Midtown NY, or near SoHo NY, you can book an appointment at our New York offices by clicking on the “Request Appointment” button on our website and we will connect you with a suitable therapist near you. Our short questionnaire form will allow you to provide important information about your therapy needs. Our expert client coordinator will then meet with you to recommend a therapist best suited for you based on your responses and answer any questions about starting therapy.

Feel free to also also browse our New York therapists and request an appointment directly with the therapist of your choosing.

What can I expect from my first therapy session?

The first appointment with a therapist typically involves getting to know each other and setting goals for therapy. Your therapist will ask about your background, current situation, symptoms, coping strategies, and therapy goals. Using this information, they will develop a personalized treatment plan tailored to your needs.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Choosing the right type of therapist depends on your individual mental health needs, challenges, and goals. Couples therapy can help with relationship difficulties and communication breakdowns, while family therapy can improve communication and resolve conflicts between family members. At Thriving Center of Psychology, we offer a range of therapy services for adults, including couples therapy and family therapy. Our licensed therapists are dedicated to providing evidence-based, personalized care to help you achieve your best possible mental health. Contact us today to learn more about our therapy services and find the right therapist for you.

What is the difference between a therapist and a psychologist in NYC?
